PLL Returns for some ages July 6

Thank you for your patience as the PLL Board of Directors worked to determine if and how we could move forward with a 2020 baseball season. Apologies for the lengthy email, but we have a number of important details to share.

We are very excited to announce that our Minors AA, Majors 8-10, Majors 10-12, Minors AAASoftball Minors and Softball Majors leagues WILL move forward with their seasons.

However, our Rookies Academy, Softball Rookies, Minors A (coach pitch), and Seniors (13+) will NOT proceed.

For the younger leagues, we cannot coordinate a program that ensures their safety as it pertains to social distancing and equipment sharing. For the Senior leagues, the issue is that with intertown travel limitations it's too difficult to find other teams to play.  For these players, we will either roll registration over to next year (2021 registration will begin at the end of summer) or you can request an immediate refund (see details below).

To move forward we have created a comprehensive 'Return to Play' plan. Our plan follows NYS Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Little League International guidance. A small sampling of our efforts will include:

  • avoiding congregating crowds by roping off sections of the park
  • limits on spectators per player
  • regular player/coach symptom checks
  • social distancing of players (when off the field) and spectators
  • use of masks when unable to maintain social distance (again, not on field)
  • reduced use of fields close in proximity
  • regular and repeated cleaning/sanitizing of high-use areas, such as bathrooms and fences
  • no equipment sharing
  • no concessions
  • adding an extra coach to focus on player/spectator safety

You can view the detailed plan here including the waiver that
players' guardians must sign and bring to their team's first practice.

Though there are a number of important off-field adjustments, game play is relatively unchanged - which is a great outcome.

Teams will begin conducting practices between July 6 -July 16; with a regular season running July 18 - August 22 (10 games total) and an end-of-season tournament between August 22 and August 29.

If any player needs to drop from the leagues that are moving forward - due to schedule issues, safety concerns or any other reason - please email [email protected] by July 6.  For the leagues that aren't moving forward this is also the email to use to request refunds by July 6. If we don't hear from you, we will roll over your registration to 2021.

All team managers will have a meeting/safety training with members of our Board of Directors to fully understand the requirements and responsibilities. Soon after, Managers will begin to communicate directly with their teams about specific details, practice times, to confirm participation, etc. For Minors AA we are still working to rebalance teams, so communication from those managers may come a bit later in June.

There is no doubt this season will look unlike any other - but the important thing is that we can allow the kids to have a fun, healthy season.
